Santa Cruz United and Santa Cruz Together spent well over $100,000 in 2019 to put the recall measure on the March ballot. The financial support of the recall effort is dominated by contributions from real estate and developer interests, and large property owners. In effect, they bought their way onto the ballot, spending far more money than any individual has ever spent to run for City Council in Santa Cruz! One of the basic questions that voters face in this campaign is whether Santa Cruz is for sale. You can show that Santa Cruz is not for sale by voting NO on the recalls.

The City Council hasn’t been progressive for years [prior to November 2018 election]. The two City Council Members now facing recall have voted, with two others, to reverse pro-development policies that the previous Council endorsed and advanced. That, in my opinion, is the real reason for the recall, and that is why such enormous amounts of money have been contributed by development and business interests to fund the recall effort.
